you are welcome to stay onboard and make yourself at home. what i will do, when i can, is take some pics and send them to you so you can see what is actually needed if i can even afford to do this going forward. i can even help if that works. just ask anyone, i'm never afraid of getting schmutzy and sweaty. it's all a laobour of love. it's going to be a few days though as i'm flying a 3 day trip starting late friday afternoon, and won't be back in the area to take pics until sometime next week. you can always contact me via PM too.

I used the easy button. My boat neighbor had a leftover peice to fit my cabin. I just removed the old carpet, used it to make a pattern and reinstalled. I'm letting a pro do the steps.

jhalb the rug looks good. as for the steps you were having an installer tackle that part? there not that bad to do,just a suggestion the type of install on the steps you presently is called a "waterfall" two reasons for this type of install 1. its a quick easy way to say you have carpet on the stairs. 2. the tread is flush with the riser therfore not allowing an "upholstered" install. it looks like the reason in your boat is lack of a bullnose on the tread. once you remove the carpet if you were to merely rip a length of 2x4 to 3/4" then cut the length needed simply fasten this piece of wood to the top of the riser so that it sits flush with your tread. once thats in your installer can then wrap the entire tread and riser seperate its takes just a few more mintues but makes them look more custom , I'm to old to use words like "POP"

Hey Trojanman, THANKS for that bit of advice.

There are several problems both John and I have in that area.

one is the curved Doris Day stairway.

the second is that with the carpet going all the way to the wall which is also upholstered, it makes for a difficult spot to clean. Especially when you have a yellow lab on board.

That wood underlay and stiched edge orf the carpet makes for a means to eliminate that problem and make a really nice looking accent for those curved stairs.

This one goes on my to do list as well !

I see , I didnt know the stairs in your boats curved like that .this is if you plan on making a runner and leaving sides of step/riser exposed , carpet edges will get binding .When setting up the new carpet instead of trying to utilize the old for a template just throw that sh*t away. on the line when they put these boats together this would not have been high on the list for quality control, use a clear thick plastic and some painters tape rough cut the plastic to cover the entire step then trace the start and stop points with a fine tip black marker. once you have what you want it will be easy to template the carpet with the plastic. keep in mind to mark each plastic sheet template with and arrow . each steps has arrow going in the same direction , ex" all arrows point up the stairs. This will help when cutting carpet as every carpet has a direction you must maintain direction the same with every piece of carpet. ummm same thing as hanging wallpaper with a picture/pattern maintain same direction.
