I don't if this is luck or not however I've never had an issue with the keel on my 26. By bilge is dry 90% of the time and I've never been able to see any water trails from anywhere on the keel cap. As far as I'm aware, the cap on the keel is completely sealed and it has no water in it. At least this is what I hope, I'd hate to see what happens to a capped off keel full of water when it freezes in the winter.

See my pics above of damaged keel, could have been a freeze as boat was in cleaveland on Erie its whole life.
