Getting ready for new cockpit bolsters. Since I'm sick of rotted wood i decided to use pvc board as a backer. Applied a little "redneck" engineering and a diesel torpedo heater and came up with perfectly molded backer boards for the new pads! I also decided to "investigate" how the original helm seats were put together. i pulled the staples from the rotted wood bottom and removed it. to my pleasant surprise the rotted bottom piece was 1/2 plywood but directly behind that was 3/4 inch ply that ad a layer of glass over it! no rot! the back of the seat was glassed to this piece of wood and was in very good condition. I am now leaning to just having these redone since I like the original look. If I do this I will keep the original vinyl pattern for any of you "would be" upholsters that are "running around with scissors" that want to give it a try!!!
got all of the dinette cushion covers back on and all the dam buttons back in. just brought all the aft cabin cushions home and will try to clean them next.

Transmissions are back! They were working fine the last time I ran the boat boat but I figured better safe than sorry. Glad I did! one had a pump that was just about shot and the other had bad reverse clutches.

Starting on the vinyl in the stateroom. what a PITA putting the the headliner and storage units in! took me 5 hrs today to get this one done. decided to carry the "tommy Bahama" accents into the stateroom to add a touch of color.

I hope you saved that old vinyl so I might use it as a pattern.
I had plans to add two "shelves" in the wasted space of my fwd cabin, but seeing your set up with the "storage units" might make better sense.
What are your plans for the forward hatch?

Harris,
Im not sure how I'm going to address the hatch. The original hatch trim is pretty shot. I was thinking of making a trim ring out of mahogany that hatch dogs would secure to. I didnt even use the old vinyl as a template. it was easier to start from scratch. if you want to make something like this for your boat I could easily walk you through it. it would not be hard to make . would take a little time to make a template but I bet you could make both and install them in a afternoon.

Did the other side today. Before, then headliner, installed cubby hole! getting low on vinyl so I used indoor out door carpet that I had laying around from home depot for the wall and floor in the closet . I bought it to replace the old carpet in the bottom of the various closets , think it was around $17 a roll. it actually worked really well on the closet wall. and yes I did fix the wiring for the lights and secured them properly before covering them!

Bolsters look great! I had the same idea about using the PVC. One question: how to you keep the vinyl from bunching up on the curved part of the board?
i want to use cedar when I redo my closets..........

Todd -- your boat is coming along quite nicely. I got an insurance bill today that I thought of as I reviewed your recent posts. Have you adjusted your insurance to reflect what it would take to replace what you have now?
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
