RWS,
That's an argument for having diesels, not a Trojan. You could say that about a 30 year old sea ray with diesels. I'll post this away from Todd's thread. Sorry Todd!

Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
makes little sense to do this on a Sea Ray type of vessel.
the hull design is simply not worthy.
period.

Hell guys this thread is 28 pages long, a few more isn't going to hurt anything! LOL
my first boat was 1977 f28 trojan with the 12'3" beam. We traded her in on a new Donzi lxc 275 express cruiser and love the 35mph cruise speed at 11gph and 52mph top end to outrun a occasional storm but missed the room. we knew we were going to have kids and my wife wanted a bigger boat. We looked at virtually every used boat in the 30 to 40ish range and kept comparing them to the 10 meter mid cabin. We looked at a few 40ft sportfish boats that my wife shot down because the cockpit was too small. The 10 meter mid cabin was the only boat we could find in our price range that had a large/huge cockpit, our own private stateroom and a aft cabin for the kids. I really wanted an 11 meter or a 10.8 sportfish but honey kept going back to the aft cabin.
I liked the internationals because I had read numerous reviews on how solid their hulls were. Ironically What I really wanted was a solid hull with no structural problems . I figured if I had a solid foundation I could always remodel her down the road a bit! LMFAO !
If I had know what I was getting into I would have bought an RV!
If I was specifically looking for a basket to redo I probably would have looked for a 31 bertram because of their demand and price when redone. I have briefly thought of buying a 10 meter express that was in need of some love and attention. I've seen a few for around $4000. then I looked at my bank account and I was back to reality!
(I will repost this on the new thread too)

another 12 hr day today. both engines wiped down, masked and primed. risers and elbows primed. got the finish coat on both trannies and the fronts of the manifolds. Its taking forever but the trannies turned out great. hard to tell from the pictures but they are glossy as heck!

Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
Just picked up all of my bolts to put everything back together. Went with all grade 8 zinc coated hardware. my new circulation pumps will be here Wednesday with a bunch of other gaskets , sending units and other misc stuff!
I actually found a local radiator shop and dropped my heat exchangers off today. told him to clean, pressure test and go over everything.
I found a place to rebuild my Qjets to factory specs (as per the engine rebuild book). I then proceed to look up the serial numbers on the carbs. one was made in 1978 the other was 1986? after reading the book that Bobct gave me I also found out that the 1986 carb was a California emissions carb whatever that means? someone drilled holes in the plates over the two large barrels ??? ive seen this done to the smaller bores to allow more air/vacuum at idle.
now I'm seconding guessing what to do. I originally thought I had the original carbs with the correct jets etc. not i dont have a clue what I have (but at least I now know that!) figure I'll bring the original carb specs to the rebuilder and see what he thinks? sure he can change everything but will make a decision after I find out what I actually have and what needs to be changed.
have I mentioned how much I love boats lately !!!!

Hey Todd,
It's been a few months since I checked in the forum. Glad to see everything is progressing. My wife and I were just looking through your posts and pictures and it's bringing back some memories over the last few years. Can't wait to see that beautiful boat in the water!

Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
Hello everyone! Hunting season is starting to wind down so i'm back working on the boat. I've been trying to figure out the best way to lay out the new aluminum angle for the engine beds. I decided to make a jig using the engine so that I was able to transfer the angle of the transmission output flange in relation to the engine beds. was somewhat tricky since after mocking it up on the engine i had to reduce the width by 1-1/2 to compensate for the 3/4 plywood that I used for the jig. naturally i forgot to put a reference mark to mark the height of the output flange on the piece of wood! I have the angle correct so I'm going to use my original measurements that i took during the tear down. Since I forgot that one reference mark I will now temporarily secure the two beds, lower the engine in, verify the height, pull the engine back out, anchor the engine beds properly and then put the engine back in! and then do it a second time! Piece of cake, LOL!
Hope everyone had a great season and are doing well.

Hey Todd !!
LOOKING GREAT !
I'd suggest putting some anti-seize on those Crusader adjustable engine mounts
Mine were badly rusted and unadjustable.

Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
Todd ,were you thinking of adding gussets to the aluminium angle where the mount bolts pass thru----it is hard to tell how thick that is from the pic----geez that will be way better than new when done----Mike
Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
Adjustable mounts?? LOL! I purchased new mounts for both engines, slathered them up with anti seize and the only way to "adjust" them is to drive a screwdriver through the gap to spread it open slightly then whack the hell out of it with a rubber mallet! i dont even think i really need to use bolts!
Mike, the original engine beds were either 1/4 or 3/8 angle . I made new ones out of 1/2 inch. I purchased 1/4 inch x 4 inch x 3ft long 316 stainless plate that im going to use as a continuous backing plate instead of individual washers (trojan used 2x2 galvanized steel washers which didnt fair too well ). I am going to continue my typical trend of over doing things and plan on mixing up some structural thickened epoxy and use it as a bedding compound between the aluminum and fiberglass stringer to give me a solid ,void free mounting point.
I swear one day I'll actually have a picture of these engines back in the boat!

Well I decided not to chance it. Took the jig apart and put it back on the engine. marked the height of the output flange this time! put it back in the boat and finally drilled my mounting holes. getting closer to putting these puppies back in!

After all that work and you are going to put back on those clunky old carbs? You could probably get a nice set of new quadrajets for less than $500 ready to bolt on and run.yorklyn wrote: I found a place to rebuild my Qjets to factory specs (as per the engine rebuild book). Re: 1987 10 meter mid cabin complete restoration.
Ive read horror stories about the rebuilt "one size fits all" qjets. I'm going to try to have mine rebuilt to the original factory specs. believe it or not I never had an issue with those nasty looking carbs during the 5 yrs I ran the boat. LOL!
Besides simply purchasing something new and bolting it on would be way to easy!
