PK,

I believe that using crimp connectors and heat shrink tube over them is the best method. Soldered connections is not recommended on wiring that is subjected to vibration or flexing. The wire can become brittle in the heat affected zone next to the solder and crack there.

As far as the panel is concerned, I like the look of brushed aluminum. Another option is to laminate a piece of Formica, whatever color and texture you like, onto a piece of plastic. That's what I did on mine.

It have been some hard days here now. Two days with rain! And yesterday and today with fog and minus 10 Celcius. I am longing for summer.....

Yesterday I found several square meters with Formica. Dark grey for worktops, and tables, and something like Carbon Fibre for the instrument panel. Quite cheap also! Yesterday ended with all instruments spread wide out in our kitchen. My wife donÂ´t like it, she said it is a KITCHEN! Yes,I know.......

Today I have disassembled the AC/DC system, with the switch panel and everything. I will remove all harness and wires.

How about the snakes nest...... There is a lot of wires in there! This is from behind the switch panel.

Most of those wires will be taken away. From the engine room it will only be wiring for the engines, from the battery bank, bilge pumps, and the 230Volt battery charger. Rest of the wires will be taken from the compartment behind switch panel, via a new panel and to the spasific places where DC is needed. Like interior lights, fridge, stereo, waterpumps, and other things. In the place where AC used to be I will put in a heater system for blowing warm air into the cabin ( we are in arctic climate). I guess I will have lot to do the next week.....or two.

the factory wiring system on the Internationals was well done and received good reviews.

generally speaking these systems have held up well over the years,

be careful not to re-do what may in fact be quite functional.

that big bus bar in the photo is a connecting point where for the most part the dash module is "plugged in" to the rest of the harness.

i strongly suggest that you keep that bus bar and attach your new dash to that point. Otherwise you will certainly have your own NEW snakes nest.

Just a small update from Norway: Today the weather was allright. I have done a lot of work in the Trojan. Work like emptying the engine room for old and useless wires, and taking apart the seacocks / valves. Their brand is Groco, a brand there is not in Europe. At least not for valves. Th shopguy wanted to sell another brand to me, but no. I donÂ´t want that crap. So I decided to renew the old seacocks And it seems to be easy.

The interior of two of the valves. Just give them a quick clean in a solvent for rubber. Use a sanding paper for all the metal parts. You donÂ´t need to disasembly the whole seacock, just take the rubbervalve out. When assembly again, be sure to put in some Vaseline white grease, just for the rubber to stay soft. More pics will follow tomorrow.

Here is a small update from Norway:

The progress in work with the Norwegian Trojan is partly stopped. Reason is the cold weather, and my bad health. Doctor said I have to avoid outside working below -4 degrees C, due to a heart failure. I have got a clogged vain...... Full surgical operation nest Tuesday. So instead working outside I have worked in my garage. With designing a new instrument panel. Quite a job. But I think it will be nice.

Last Sunday my grandson and I took a trip to the harbour. Out on the frosen fjord there was people sitting in chairs, fishing.

It was a nice, but cold weather. Almost -25 on the blue side of zero.
