Trojan Boat Forum

With only 3 weeks vacation (minus the additional days I took last year by mistake -- oops!) minus what we need to host 25+family for Xmas dinner and the resulting recovery time..... doesn't leave a lot for real summer vacation fun. The old job had 4 weeks vac'n, which worked much better!.

Would love to be there with the boat, but just don't see it happening right now.

A few years ago, I looked into having it hauled up to Midland for a vacation then back to Windsor. The cost to do this would have paid for me to build a nice triple axle trailer. At this point however, I'm pretty sure that I'd have to remove the arch and the radar that I just added in order to have enough clearance to cruise down the highway without having an overpass remove it for me. If I was spending a month there it would be worth the work but I cant see that happening any time soon. Sure is nice to think about though.

The arch is a great addition, nicely done..... Really suits your Trojan.

Can't beat a triple axle for our size boat.....sure the 25/26 is over width, but we have tried everything from MTO to our local chicken coop (401 scale house) to get permits....cannot get one, they all play dumb.....unbelievable

I'm afraid I'm going to side with Michael on this. Bay Moorings is about 10 minutes, at fast idle, away from my marina. Up the coast or down the Trent, either is good with us. But if Jimbo's marina is a meeting place, destination decided and go from there, that works.

We are good with something like that as well,I know I would benefit ,as I am sure would others ,from having some leadership getting up the bay as I have zero experience up there so far----- looking forward to whatever the consensus is---- Mike

Threw my Dawson Marina emblem in the garbage a few years ago. Didn't realize the significance of it. It had been afixed to the side of the galley cupboard facing the five steps down from the cockpit.

That's where mine was originally purchased as well. When I bought it in 2000, it was in Port Dover.

I also have one of those. You can't talk boating of the past in Ontario without mentioning Dawson's. The piece itself ain't worth much but it's place in the industry's history is priceless. I'll have it forever.

For years, when they went to boat shows Dawson's (and their 'Computer Boat Search' service - available YEARS before the internet existed) would set up and use the last 3' -4' and transom of an F32 for their desk / booth / table .... I contemplated buying it off Doug and turning it into a bar in my basement, but figured I would never get it down the stairs...

I think Doug Dawson is 5th generation in the boating business, and were Trojan dealers from the start of the line.

Right you are Captain. I remember Dawson's (Art) was the Trojan Dealer and Crate's (Lloyd) was the Chris Craft Dealer, operated side by side for many years in Keswick on Lake Simcoe. Together they sold many of their respective Builders models throughout Lake Simcoe and beyond resulting in a large population of these boats to this day. When you think about it, they are the reason there are so many of us Trojan Boat owners around this part of Ontario. So, back to the hijacked thread, who is in for a Trojan Rendezvous in Georgian Bay this summer?

OK, short of someone taking the helm here and saying "This date, this place" how about we each post a time and a place that would work, and a location we would consider?
IE: While I would prefer some time between July 7 - 27, somewhere along the Trent, I would also be able to attend, during that same time, up in Georgian Bay, or anywhere within 2 or 3 days scope from my home base at Young's Point any time outside of that.
My home base is too small to accomodate more than a couple of boats, but nearby Stoney Lake would be a good place for those who prefer to stay on the hook and offers some prety good ammenities nearby. On the other end of the scale, jimbo has offered up his marina, which could probably accomodate more of us, offers the opportunity to also meet up on the hook, out on the bay, but may be too far for some to travel within a reasonable time frame, due to operating hours on the locks.
So post up with your preferances and maybe we can nail down best time/location before our very short season passes by.

We all probably have this to consider, the Trent boaters outbound and the Bay boaters inbound.
Rushing, which we don't like, it took us 3 days to get to Peterborough in our last (quicker) boat. So going that far it will be 6 days out of your holidays just to meet up with the rest of the group and return home. Also, plan on getting split up in the locks with any more than 3 boats, which means longer travel time if you plan on waiting to regroup every time that happens. That time may take longer today as the Locks now have reduced operating hours.

I see two groups, gather and travel together to meet up with the others. Kind of two rendezvous in one. Not a bad idea really.
If it works then next year flip the destination to share the travel.

Maybe we should get a "head count" as parking a larger number of boats in the Trent may be very limited. Big Chief Island in Lake Simcoe might be the only spot, and we know how crowded it can be. The head count may be determined by the time chosen.

Our time booked is Saturday July 26 till Monday August 11.

we are good for any time that fits the group------one thing about using Jimbos offer is that it is done so long as there are no conflicting times,(Jimbo can respond to this) and can handle a large number,there are enough already there to help to organize this, so from there you can get out to where we decide and still have no restrictions that I can think of-----we do like the Trent system though but would be difficult to deal with a number of boats at once----I believe that when all the snow and ice melts this year they are calling for a 3' rise in water levels due to lack of evap. over the winter----so lots of secluded anchorages will be open,just some thoughts---Mike

We are available only on Monday July 21 or the 28th for the week. Coming from Lagoon City either to GB or to Pete. Hope this fits or helps. Maybe we need a separate thread for dates an locations.
