Battery exploded
My son and I were replacing one of our batteries that died. The Genny battery had the same date code. Before going to purchase batteries I tried the Genny from remote switch. Sounded like a gunshot. For a few minutes we could not determine what was the cause. My son looked down at the battery and ah-oh no top on battery. Internal hydrogen exploded. Luckily my son did not get hit with shrapnel, but got a battery acid spraying. He cleaned up then we removed both batteries, cleaned acid in back of battery box and wherever else we found acit. New Batteries and all is better. We will never test start anything with the battery box not being in place. Lesson learned.

Re: Battery exploded
I think you are correct, though it has departed. Many batteries cannot be checked now a days. But I think this one can and my bad for not doing it. You can bet will going forward.

Re: Battery exploded
Feel for you and glad no one got seriously hurt.
I just finished a sea trial on a friend's boat and I noticed the raw water line from the heat exchanger was under some serious pressure. When the temps started going up, another guy tried to jump down there beside it, but I wouldn't let him as I was afraid the hose was going to explode. Fortunately it did not and my friend will have to order a set of risers. Always pays off to have a cool head in tough situations.
