Just plugged into shore power for first time with new (1983) 10 meter Trojan and happy to find out A/C unit works, just needs recharged.
Can this be done with the old R-12 re-charge?
How may cans will it take?
Same procedure as charging an old cars system?
FYI- doors still operate on captain's cabin and bathroom oval doors.
All three windshield wipers work.
Need to trouble shoot trim tabs, maybe just needs hydrolic oil.
Boat runs amazing at 3200 RPM,
Old crusaders are monsters!!!!

No you must use the right refrigerant . Most likely R22 . R22 runs are a higher pressure then 12 . Look at the unit to see what it takes . Avoid replacements like 22A as its flammable . Make sure its pumping water too.

And if it needs a recharge, there is a problem....

I presume it is not an engine driven compressor? Their Achilles heel is the shaft seal.

You dont have one, everything is hermetically sealed. That means a bona fide leak somewhere, which you should locate and fix before recharging. No lawful tech would do otherwise. Good luck. Its hot out there!

not pumping water so I need to trouble shoot the raw water pump.
Probably replace.
First I'm going to flush the line that discharges and go from there.
Thanks,
It finally cooled down but looking hot again for this weekend.
The alternate is a lot worse.
