Air Condition

Questions.

I have the 1987 Trojan 11 meter with flybridge. Neither of my a/c units blows cold air. It turns on fan and all that stuff, just no cold air. I'm thinking it may need a recharge?

Also, how do I empty the toilet holding tank? I did notice on the stern deck that their is a pump under it. Do I have to do anything with the pump before pumping out? No manuals to tell me how to do any of this.

Check the water outlet on the side of the boat and make sure you have water flow. You might need to prime the pump that circulates water for the AC units.

The pump you're referring to is probably the discharge pump-out through a Y valve. This allows overboard pumping of waste from the holding tank.
NO overboard pump out unless you're 3 miles off shore. (Coast line, not inland lakes)

To pump out at a pump out facility, simply remove the deck cap marked "Waste" and attach the hose to it and suck out the nasty. Be sure to rinse the nozzle of the pump out hose in the water a couple of times to rinse the hose and nozzle before you finish, allowing water to come up through the hose before turning off. Word of caution: If your tank is full and the tank vent is clogged or it's about 110 degrees outside, remove waste cap very slowly!!! Don't ask me how I know!!!

The a/c issue could be a freon problem, cooling problem through unit, etc.

Is the AC reverse cycle and blowing hot air? I had this problem this year which lead me to a bad thermostat. If it is reverse cycle and your are getting hot air, you can remove one leg of the solenoid cable at the compressor which directs the flow of freon for cooling and heating. You can also remove but this still keeps the coil dissipating heat and it gets quite hot.

I have made this change for the short term until I replace the thermostat. The downside with this is your compressor is always running and if it is topped off with freon, could freeze up.

So.. if your getting hot air, you have enough freon in the system to make cold air, it is just flowing through the evaporator in the wrong direction.
