On the F32 I just purchased ...the engine sync. is not working. I never had twins before, so I'm not familar with using it. Any thoughts? Replacement?

Mine doesn't have one so I'm not familiar. I too will be interested in the replies here.

Mine works, but it's on the lower helm, so I usually don't use it much. If the g/f is driving, sometimes I'll drop down and synch them up.
If your tachs are fairly accurate, you can judge by them.

The one on my trojan shorted out causing the engines to die . drove me nuts trying to find out whats wrong . I would throw it away before it gives you more proplems

Often tachs are unreliable - one may read 50 rpm high, the other 50 rpm low, so matching them up means nothing. An engine Synch is helpful but not critical because you can synch the engines up by ear. If they are out of synch, you can usually hear a bit of a droning pulsing sound (because of the difference in the harmonic frequencies of the engines). The further they are out of synch the faster the pulse sounds; the closer they are, the slower the pulse sounds. When the pulsing sound disappears both engines are 'humming' along at the same freqeuency, and you are synched !
You might have to listen a bit to hear the drone, but once you do try slowly advancing one throttle and see if the pulses speed up or slow down. If it slows down, you need to advance that throttle a bit more or pull back on the other one. If the pulses speed up, do the opposite.
Good luck.

Like Captmaniac said, I sync by ear. The tachs will never be identical and there will be a difference in rpm most likely.
I'm amazed at how even my friends will run their boats out of sync. They are surprised when they hear the difference after I show them how to listen for the tune of the engine. After a while, you'll get the hang of it.
Enjoy...

I agree with syncing them by ear. Why have more equipment to keep up / maintain when you can do just as well without it.

My sync works great. I was new to twins so it was great in training my ear. I still use it but mainly because it's on the flybridge and that's the only place I operate the boat from........and it will show you that your tachs ARE not prefect........

Thanks once again for the valuble info. The droning pulsing sound was exactly what my boat did during sea-trial when he was bringing the boat on plane. ....thought it had something to do with the stale gas in the tanks or the carb. that's needs a cleaning.

I picked up the boat Friday evening after work. On the way home, flipped the switch to the sync. and it worked.....both stations. BTW ..... I love this boat! Matter of fact...rushed home from work tonight so I could get out for an hour....
