1979 F-26 chrysler 318 lm engine ticking, running hard

Hopefully someone can enlighten me here....

New Trojan owner, first trip out in Toledo ohio and the engine is ticking loudly both under way and less ticking in idle. I have the local marina mechanic looking at it tomorrow. My thought or rather question is anyone else out there with this engine and issue.(Single-225 hp 318cid Chrysler)

Anyone with manuals for 1979 F-26, as I want to be able to work on it myself. Well hopefully anyway unless it's heads or a trans. Already in process of complete new wiring for boat, it's in good shape with some minor age corrosion to panels.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I think I sent you the pages from my 77 F-26 Manual and a source for the engine manual. The ticking may simply be sticky valve lifters, which your mechanic should be able to either fix or replace. How many hours on the engine? Oil changed? Worst case scenario may be a valve job.

A blown exhaust manifold gasket will make a ticking sound

It sounds like it might be an exhaust manifold gasket. However, when I had a 318 in mine, I actually had one of the plugs on the bottom of the exhaust maniofld vibrate loose, found it in the bilge and put it back in and that was it.
