Hi Fellas,

Looking at a 1976 Trojan tricabin. Was wondering what are some of the trouble spots I should be looking for. Also how are the v-drives, do they pose any problems? Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry so late in the response, was working on the boat!

I have a '74 Tri-Cabin, and about the year you are looking at they changed the interior design (somewhere about there....).
Mine has the rear engines and two separate beds. Yours might have the large master bed in the aft stateroom.

Anyway, I would pay particular attention the electrical components, including the fusebox.
A boat that old (and I know from experience) tends to have corrosion on the tips of ALL the electrical connections. Now, this may, or may not be an issue for you, but I bet if you look hard enough, you will find some non-working electronics, or gauges or whatnot. This is most likely due to corrosion issues.
If you're handy and willing to dig in, it's not that big of a deal, but if not, you may wish to have this thoroughly checked.

Also, the generators (Onan 6.5) that were factory installed on these boats are known CO death traps. There is/was a factory recall on the exhaust hoses, and this upgrade must be done before safely running the generator.
Hopefully, the generator has already been replaced somewhere down the line...
