Okay; after reading all about overboard discharge [in New Jersey], and sensing some continued confusion on the subject [and being totally doomed as well as obsessive-compulsive] I've spent all evening on the computer tracking down New Jersey's boating discharge laws.
The bottom-line is "'it is not legal to discharge either treated or untreated sewage from any vessel into any of New Jersey's Lakes, reservoirs, or freshwater impoundments "[ I take this to mean any closed body of water]. In addition it is illegal to discharge any sewage while at any marina or slip. [I think this means black water, not gray water]
Further, there are a number of rivers where discharge is illegal either into the river or within 3 miles of its mouth [the seashore]
If you're vessel has the capability of overboard discharge, and is operating in an area where discharge is prohibited, the system must be disabled such that discharge can not occur. [This means valve closed, wired closed, or the head" padlocked"... ya right...]
I realize everybody's probably sick of reading about this, and irritated with me but hey, I feel better, and I'm into self gratification.
