Hi everyone i,m new here and don,t have a boat yet but that might change depending on what kind of info i get from this forum.anyway i want to this guy farm today to looked at a wooden boat for sell the boat is about 26-30' and it is a trojan the hull is woodstreak planking.the boat been sitting in dry storage since 1988 and look like it in fair shape.i never get a chance to look inside yet but i,m comming back to the barn next week to take couple pic.as i never own a wooden boat yet what i like to know is what kind of things to look out for when i,m inspecting the boat next week?what should i look for that is original and belong on a trojan.Is trojan boat a good boat to restore?

A wood boat sitting in dry storage for 21 years would concern me. Especially one that was not climate controlled.
Wood boats need to be slowly introduced into water when they've been out. Many will sit in slings and lowered slowly over a period of hours or days...the wood needs to swell-up. During this time, vital checking for leaks.

Someone with more knowledge of wood boats could chime in.

Before I bought my wood boat, a friend of mine told me "if you want to know if you will like this hobby, try standing under a cold shower and then tear up $100 bills as fast as you can. If you enjoy that, you will enjoy a wood boat". He was right.

Seriously though, a lapstrake boat (i'm assuming that's what it is) will take being out of the water without too much fuss. I would expect the strakes to be sealed with polysulfide caulk, so leaks may not be the issue. I would worry about the fasteners and any areas of rot. If the boat is not pristine, I would walk away (even if it is free).
