I have Edelbrocks and my Starboard side sticks a little. I have to rev it up and pull it down fast to get it to return. It's just something I have learned to deal with.

I know this sounds dumb but, make sure the return spring is taught enough and that the linkage returns to idle , ya never know

Yea, it's on there but I thought about buying a stronger one.

Bills is right ... check to make sure the return springs (2 ea for safety, both stainless) are "strong" enough.
Make sure the needles are resetting back into their seats ... this is the biggest issue I've had with Qjets ... I used to have a ratchet at hand to pop the top up on my 72 Chevelle SS to re-seat the needles when they occasionally stuck ...
When it "hangs" at 1200 RPM, and you look at the linkages, baffle, throttle position, and then goose it, what change do you see? Something is simply hanging ...
Finally - is this a Marine Edelbrock? Make sure it is, because automotive Qjets vent openly, and let gas fumes go out below the car, but in a boat, they end up in the bilge - and lead to fires. Auto carbs can be modified for marine use, but one should NEVER use an automotive carb in a boat!

If its a Edelbrock in can't be a Q-jet

Actually, GM quit making Qjets several years ago. Edelbrock makes them now ...

Here is your manual:

JW -
Make SURE its a Marine Edelbrock Qjet model 1409 (600CFM Qjet) or 1410 (750CFM Qjet) :
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new ... 0/1402.pdf
The marine model has:
- 1) Marine Fuel Inlet (3/8" Inverted Flare Fitting)
2) Marine Fuel Pump Vent
3) NO Power Brake Vacuum Port (on lower rear). If there is a hole there, it must be plugged with a 1/4" Brass Pipe plug.

looks like nobody makes them anymore . lI guess Edelbrock bought the rights from Rochester to make them then stoped .( look at your link )

GM's Rochester Products Division, Weber (under contract at later dates) and Carter (mid 70's contractor - the Carter carb was made for years in North St. Louis, MO, about 3 miles from the Corvette plant) no longer make the "Rochester" Quadrajet.
Edelbrock still sells them ...

Paul - you stated, "
If its a Edelbrock in can't be a Q-jet".
But Edelbrock did make Qjet Marine carbs ... the 750CFM #1901 ...
Apparently they don't make them any more, so JW should be SURE of what he has ...
1) If its a Qjet, read the manual and possibly put in a rebuild kit and tighter return springs,
2) If its a Edelbrock Square-bore, thats a whole different story,
3) If its not a marine carb (no matter WHAT type), then its a fire hazard!
