Before I call my Lexus driving mechanic...

1978 Express 30

I took off my super structure steaming/anchor light last season and have opted for a low profile LED steaming light... but I cannot see where the darn thing was hooked in to the front block under the instrument panel upstairs... anybody have a an idea... a number for the terminal that I should be looking for??.. it looks like all my wires are accounted for...

also.. I had my water temp gauge sending units replaced last year ... the mechanic said the ground was messed up on starboard engine but he replaced sensor anyway...but now I notice that the starb'd temp gauge is pegged all the way to the right and not working... wondered where the ground wire is if there is even such a thing...

You will need a simply 12v test probe to check what is powering what.

The running/anchor switch is a double pole double throw pull switch. If you look at the back side of the switch you will see 4 terminals. One of the terminals is being fed by the 12v power. It will be the only terminal that is powered when the switch is off. One of the terminals is powered only when the switch is pulled to the first position. One of the terminals is powered only when the switch is pulled to the second position. The final terminal is powered when the switch is pulled to either position. This terminal is used to power the front light of the combination running/ anchor light. Trace the wire coming from that terminal to the terminal block. If you are lucky the wire will be numbered and you will be able to find the corresponding number on the terminal block. Now turn the running lights on. The stern, starboard, and port lights should be on. Check the two terminals on the switch to see which terminal is powered. You want to trace the other terminal back to the block. It is powering the back light of the combination light. The combination light has 3 wires. One powers the front light. Connect it to the first terminal you located. One is powering the back light. Connect it to the second terminal you located. The final wire is the ground. Connect it to the ground on the terminal strip. If you didn’t screw up the front light will light when the running lights are on, and both the front and back lights will be on when the anchor light is on.
