Hey all, I have a 10 meter sedan with a GOOD brand windlass that is slipping when I try to retrieve the line. I have searched a few internet isghts that suggest trying another peice of line (thinking the 5/8" rope has shrunk) and have looked at Good's website, but no real answers. Any ideas?

Does your windlass have a centre drive hole to allow for tightening the tension?

Not that I have seen, but I haven't looked at it that close. I do know all bolts look great for its age, which is a testimate to Goods products with no corrosion or rust. it does have an oil plug on the side, and I am assuming this is just a bath and has not effect on pressure? I will pull it apart tomorrow and try to learn a little more about it.

The usual problem with the windlass is the rope not free falling due to old rope. If it's slipping, check to make sure you are using the rope supplied by Good (different colors to denote scope). If it is not Good rope, or, if it is very old, I would get 150' from them.

Good to know. I may try that and see what I can get out of her. Right now it is just to frustratiing to use, and it is not a freefall winch, only a power down, which making life anchoring over a wreck in 100' of water interesting on a rough day, so I may look at gettign a free fall model. But, they are spendy, so if I can get it work faster I may get used to it
