Trojan Boat Forum

Hello, I am new to the Trojan line of boats. I am looking at a 1967 31 ft. Trojan Express Cruiser that has been stored in the water for the last
9 years a. I have not inspected it closely, but condition looks to be good.
No water in either engine compartments or back storage area. What
should I look for? Are there certain things that I should be aware of with
buying a boat this old? It has not been driven for the past nine years either. Thanks for any help.

Its been in the water and not used for 9 years ? and you say its a 1967 ?
look for a rotton bottom and or worms a wood boat must be painted every year or the worms will eat her alive .

You only get shipworms in salt water ! Look for rot in the bow near the portholes. also around the windows if they leak & the corner posts on the front trunk cabin windows. Check around the cockpit windows where they meet the trunk cabin roof. If it's been taken care of BUY IT , you'll love it. Nothing rides & handles like a wood boat. Especially if it's a Trojan! A Sea Voyager (Carvel Planked (smooth)) is the best one. Mine is a 1967 36' Sea Voyager Express.

And a wood boat can be a full time job . make sure to you have it checked by a pro and make sure its checked out of the water .

Thanks for all the suggestions. The boat is in fresh water. I am going to have a someone from a local marina that specializes in wooden boats look it over. My wife fell in love with it, and the guy only wants $4,500 for it. I have always wanted a wooden boat. I have a 1992 Colbalt that works great that I have done some minor work on, but have no clue about wooden boats. Thanks again and look forward to using the forum more if I end up purchasing.
