Playing with my new camera... I took this short video of the wake while cruising Friday evening on glassy water.

At that speed, how many gallons an hour do you burn?

That was about 2700 RPM, and 12 knots. I didn't have the GPS on, so I don't know the exact speed. My boat speed is pretty sensitive to the number of people and the amount of fuel on board. You can tell it was planed out because the wake is pretty flat so I was probably running about 12 knots. The boat squats more throwing a bigger wake at 10 knots. It starts to flatten out at 11. This video is pretty typical of 12. I don't have a fuel meter, so I'm not too precise about fuel burn rate at a particular speed. I averaged under 5 GPH for all of last season. This speed is pretty typical of how I run while cruising. I have the Carter AFB carburetor on a Chrysler LM 318 (single screw). The secondaries kick in at 3200 RPM which pushes up the fuel consumption. I rarely run it that fast.
P.S. Those fishing rods were not for nothing Friday night. Here is my catch!

Caught trolling the tube.

Hey Bill, did you notice the steam coming out of the exhaust? Nice video and nice to see normal steam for all you worry-warts out there.

I think he meant that comment for Randyp who was trying to allay Bill's earlier concern of exhaust steam.
