well, can any of you give some good ideas on how to sell my boat and what forum to do so would be bst. T he time has come, I must move on. our forum here asks not to sell here so any ideas would be helpful.

Make sure you are sitting down first before checking prices on what has sold. The economy has made the "luxury items" go flat and people are truly giving away their toys. If you truly do not HAVE to sell, then you should keep your vessel and wait for a turn in the market. I was going to sell my boat and after lowering and lowering I decided to not give her away and to really enjoy her as I can. If you have to sell, Look at craigslist, boatrader and ebay ( I once sold a grady white in panama city, FL for less than 20k panama city to a guy in washington state off ebay, so you never know....). You can usually obtain an open listing with a broker that will charge you 10% if they find a buyer for you. The way I got my Trojan in the first place was for a trade in land. Something to think about if you are needing to move the boat but don't necessarily need the cash. Someone else may need to move an airplane or land or vehicle, etc. that they can't sell in out economy either... Best of luck....

The challenge you will face is that you have an older, orphaned boat.

THis is a challenge, even in a good market. Given the current situation, it will be an issue of supply vs. demand, and those looking specifically for an older Trojan will be a smaller segment of the buying population.

As time goes on there is less and less brand awareness. The brand has done no real advertising in nearly 20 years.

Web sites like this are important to preserving the value of the brand.

Flying the burgee is valuable and our doing what we can to promote the brand is also a big help as sooner or later everyone will sell thier boat.

hi, good luck with the sale, but you have to be ready to basically give the boat away, I have a F31 in superb condtion, and I would think it was the boat that prevents the sale, but not ONE person has even come to look at the boat,, NOT ONE, so I dont know whats going on, but for some reason people dont seem to like Trojans, why I dont know, I see JUNK, selling for more money than Im asking and I paid 13K and cant even get a 5000 bid on ebay, everybody wants it for free, and they ask the most insane questions , like offering me half of what Im asking, and say there doing me a favor even taking it off my hands for a couple of grand,
on a personal note, I would rather sink it and light it on fire, than sell it for that price,, or maybe its just the F31 thats not a seller, who knows,,,, very dissapointing
and prowler, did you actually sell, or just interest? I had 72 watchers on ebay , and not one bid, or anything,, really weird

Informed buyers know the quaility of Trojans. Uninformed buyers (or hull kickers) condem all boats. You can tell who they are. They ask a ot of dumb questions, and insult you with lowball offers. Yes, older boats are hard to sell primarily because there are tons of them out there for sale and few buyers understand the benifits of owning one. Also, most of us here can repair our own boat. If you are not able to, costs are just scary.Simpley supply and demand.Jimbo

Selling in this market will probably not be easy, especially if you have a price target you need to meet. I had been looking for the right Trojan for about 5 years when I bought mine last fall. Due to the market, I got it for way less than half of what it is worth.

People who really know boats and are looking diligently for the right boat will recognize the quality in a Trojan. Carver didn't buy the company for no reason. Right across the dock from my slip is a relatively new "Trojan Express by Carver". That's what it says on the side. Great boat, but no comparison.

There are 103 boats on my dock in a big boat marina that has a total of nearly 700 boats. There is not a day goes by that several people don't walk by my slip (and these are boat owners) and comment on the classic design of my Trojan Tri-cabin. The guy next to me in a SeaRay 36 says of my Trojan, "That's when a 36 was a real 36." and he is right. His 36 includes three feet of swim platform and has about half the room mine does.

If I had the money, I would approach Carver about selling the brand and re-commissioning the entire line. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

Think twice before you sell...because once it is gone....its gone.

Guys - Trojans are great boats ... but the marine market is awful ... so ...

  > If you crave a new vessel, buy it, and sell your current Trojan later (right).

I've seen much more expensive boats than ours selling at huge discounts here ... and I've been tempted, but I'm not moving. I looked at a 42' Ocean going for half what he paid 2 years ago for example.

I will admit that a nice, diesel F36 would make a nice trade (with cash) for my diesel F32 ... if the deal was right ...

In the mean time - enjoy your Trojan - its a beautiful, well-made vessel, which will give you many years of inexpensive enjoyment.

speaking of hull kickers. not to long ago i was replacing the rear deck on the boat (it was not going as i planned) a guy comes up to me at the marina, looks the boat over and asks if he can come up and take a look.
he comes up looks around and asks if the boat is for sale. i tell him everything is for sale for the right price and he offers me 5 grand! i kinda chuckle and tell him double it and he has got a deal. he looks at me like i just killed his dog and goes on this long tangent about the economy and its a buyers market...blah,blah,blah.
i tell him all the blood sweat and tears i have into it and really don't care if i sell it or not. the nerve of some people!

Given the same situation, I would have simply assumes that he wanted to just buy the TROJAN emblem and I would have gladly handed it to him for the $5,000.
