i have state farm as well.

i did some shopping around when i got my current boat, back in february, hoping to find some cheaper rates. if your search finds the same as mine did, you'll find that state farm is about as cheap as you're going to get.

i checked with boat u.s., and was suprised to find that they're coverage was LESS and premiums MORE.

check around, but unless they've just been crappy to deal with, i'd just stay with them. IF however you find someone that's cheaper...PLEASE let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

if you don't mind sharing, who have you already checked with that won't insure an older boat, just out of curiosity?

Agreed Value

Basically agreed value is where you tell the insurance company what value you want covered and they price a policy to match that value.

So if you think your boat is worth 12,000 and the contents you put on it are valued at 5,000 then you tell them you want the agreed value at 17,000 and they put a price to that and quote you.

You can't tell them to put the agreed value at 100,000 though and you wouldn't want to pay for that anyway.

Dryden Mutual Insurance in Dryden, NY. But this is for specific location (Sacandaga Lake) & inland waters only, and limited season. Boat & equipment insured for 9500 and add'l equipment 1500. Layup period Nov - Mar required. Total premium is $287. Not that I'd expect this to be similar to those on "big" water but maybe you can negotiate the premium based on seasonality, location limitations, etc.
