BOW ANCHOR PLANK

Post by larglo »

Hi all,

I have seen pic's of the anchor mounted on the front bow on what I think they call a plank. I have an F25 and my anchor is placed on the deck of the bow. I would very much like to convert to the bow plank type of mounting. Does anyone have plans and instructions on how to make the plank, and hardware to use etc. I have looked and cannot find anyplace that sell them. Most likely the price would be more than I could spend anyway?

Thanks for any help.

You can build one like I did. Actually my friend at work cut out the form from pine and I fiberglassed that and painted it. You need to make sure you have the "foot" on the bottom end of the anchor platform (or "plank") to offset the recessed area on the deck. I mounted mine with 4 ss carriage bolts that were backed with 3/4" plywood on the underside of the deck, accessed via the locker in front of the v-berth. I drilled 1" holes were the bolts go and then filled the holes with epoxy so the bolts were not going through any wood. I used silicone sealant (a lot of it) between the mounting foot and the deck. I cut a hole in the platform for the anchor roller and left enough room on the front of the platform for the spotlight. Of course, I don't have any of the measurements, but you can build one that's "perfect" for your boat. If you go this route I would recommend using marine grade plywood and be sure to fiberglass the edges. I have some "checking" on the edges on mine that I've repaired/reinforced by drilling several vertical and horizontal holes in that area and then damming up the edges with duck tape, finally filling with epoxy.

The platform replaced the "original" one built by a previous owner out of oak. Way too heavy and started to rot because it was not sealed/fiberglased. This one have been in place for 4 years.

ANCHOR PULPIT

Post by larglo »

I want to thank each of you for your help in seeking info about the anchor pulpit.

Randy P, I was very interested in yours because you made one from scratch. I'm retired and money doesn't grow on trees for me. So making one really appeals to me. Even if I mess the first one up, I'm not out a bundle. My son has lots of fiberglass material around for when we made a dome for our observatory.
I'm a little puzzeled about why you drilled the 1" holes and filled with epoxy, so bolts wouldn't touch the wood.
I sure wish you had pic's of it all. How long is the anchor roller you used?
I may try to copy the design of some I've seen, but this is for sure the way I will go.
Thanks very much!

ANCHOR PULPIT

Post by larglo »

Paul,

Your post came up as I was writing the "reply". Your boat really looks great! Did you make your pulpit too? I took note of how the underside of the pulpit had bracing. I liked this and will try to do the same with mine. I booked marked your bucket address. The 25' and 26' are very close in design except for the dinette as far as I can tell. It's amazing what 1 foot can do. If you had some more picks of your pulpit, I'd sure like to see them.
Thanks again, Larry
