Ok, I need to put a little fluid back into one of my trannies (I broke loose the case seal on accident when I unbolted it during the stringer repair).

But my problem is that I understand ther can be a variety of fluids run in those, so how do I know what was in them so I dont mix fluids.

The only thing I know is that the juice was red that spilled into the bilge.

DextronII (or dextron III)?

I really dont want to completly drain and clean tham out at this point in the season....

Any ideas?

how do you tell what type of trans you have ? I have a 79 F36 that was repowered in the early 90s with 454 marine power engines, i was going to change the fluid in the trans but not sure which tranny i have.

They are most likely Borg-Warner Velvet Drives. Dexron III.
