A 63 ft bertram that sunk after hitting a buoy 20 miles offshore. Looks to me like it just fell apart.

See, It only proves that salad is the best thing for "Tupperware" !

Real Boats are made of WOOD !

It must have been cored with wood to come apart like that . Nothing like a solid glass Hull . :)

If it was wood cored it would have held up better.

looks more like something "hit it" not it hitting something. thats U-G-L-Y!

It looks to me like a wave might have peeled the deck off of it & maybe tore out a stringer or bulkhead & holed the hull.

Rumor per one of the Boat US Captains here in SC is that one of the Prop shafts broke, leaving a big empty hole.

Other rumor is that this was a 2006 Bertie that had de-lammed once, been fixed and was sold at Marinemax in Lindenhurst.

Who knows? Scary!

I am certainly no expert but it would appear that the damage shown in the photos could not have been caused by merely running into the buoy pictured. I agree, it looks like the boat was rammed or had previous serious damage that was not repaired correctly.

To each his own right gang? But for this guy, solid glass is the only way. I'm sure you all recall that new Berty falling apart in Palm Beach right from the factory:

It looks to me like he stuffed a roller and the fore deck opened up like a tin can. I think these boats are foam cored not wood or balsa. I didn't know about the other boat falling apart, looks like Bertram may be having some problems.

I wonder if this is the same Palm Beach boat?

Would never happen to my '78 F26. I mean , if she could go that fast! It is very well built. How do the F32's and F36's compare to the more modern SF's.

For the most part the new sport fish are much better built , Bertram looks like they are going down hill but most others have gotten better . Trojan built a good hull but its far from built proof and 20 knot hit with a buoy good chance you or I would be deploying the life raft

with that said something was realy wrong with that boat

Wow, those are some scary pictures. It really is hard to believe a bouy could do that much damage but that is what they said they hit so it probably is true.
