gauge replacement - found a solution

After searching everywhere for an exact match (not possible), I was able to "make" a replacement water temp gauge for my '88 10m mid cabin.
Teleflex makes an Int'l series line which visually are about as close as you can get. They happen to be discontinued and the temp gauge was only $16 at West Marine. They have matching fuel and oil pressure gauges too.
The problem is the bezel is wider and higher than the OEM setup. The gauges on the boat are attached by 4 screws and sit "under" the square plastic trim. I tried all sorts of trimming but at best the new gauge would have sit up higher than the rest.
I finally did some surgery using a dremel tool on the new gauge. With the bezel removed, I pried off of the metal bezel on the old gauge and was able to re-install on the new one. It was tricky but the new gauge will mount just like the other factory gauges.
I tested both using a sending unit and some water out of the microwave.
No reason why you couldn't do the same for the other gauges. Shoot me an email if you need more detail.
