Hi all,

Two days ago a fire truck went by our house and we were able to see black smoke rising up from our front porch. As I looked, I thought,,,,,this looks like it's could be coming from our marina?
That evening on the local news we found out that, indeed, it was. A 49' yacht had caught on fire in the Fate Sanders marina.
The next moring I went to check on our boat and found out the boat slip was down from ours.
The dock starts with 24' slips, then 30' slips, (where ours is) then expands to 40 and 50' slips.
The boat that burned was a 49' SeaRay I think. Just days before that, I had talked to the owner. He had a For Sale sign on it, asking $189,000.00.

It was lucky that in that area, there are a few who mostly live on their boats and they noticed flames coming from it, and pushed it out of the slip, into open water.
Otherwise, no telling how much damaged it could have done!

Unless it was very small fire that would have been hard or imposable to do . They did the right thing .

for sale, eh? first thing that went through my mind when i read that one statement was "insurance fraud".

this could be the bestest, stand up guy in the world...but how much ya wanna bet that's going to be looked at reallllllllyyyyy hard?

hopefully everything will work out.

we had a boat catch on fire on my dock a little over a year ago (before i moved there). it mucked up the roof of the dock to the point that the entire dock had to be rebuilt, AND the marina paid to have each boat cleaned from all the gunk and such from the fire and process of putting it out. that boat was for sale as well, and of course...insurance fraud was looked at really hard. no word on what they found.

I was thinking the same thing,,,,that he did it to collect the insurence. This boat looked very new, and it may have been a Carver?

That thing burnt all the way down to the water line, and what was left, most likely sank. When I got there, none of the boat was visible.

I don't know if they could detect if the fire was set, or just an accident?

hummmmmm...... if it wasn't insurance fraud, the fire was probably started by one of those alcohol, or camp stoves....

Having been a police officer for 32 years I do not belive in coincdences, enought said.

Fires can happen with no one there but you would be absolutely amazed at the number of hit and runs that occur in front of people's homes in the middle of the night with no debris left. A simple quetion ends it all "did you sweep up the street out here and if so where did you put the leavings?", investigation over.

Most are fraud against the insurance company and it costs all of us. I am and will remain the skeptic but those fires can happen and they should be looked at carefully, especially when offered for sale.l

That was funny....

That camp stove went to the curb. My dad explained how those things work- unbelievable. I wouldn't even use one camping on dry ground.

We had a boat in our marina explode last year with people on board and the whole boat was in flames in under a minute. It took four other boats along with it because it burnt so fast nobody could get close enough to untie it and shove it out into the river. They did the right thing by cutting her loose and pushing it out to open water. I agree this looks suspicious but as a teenager I had my ski boat burn to the water line because of a faulty battery short while I was not around. So it could have spontaneously shorted and caught fire.
