Trim Tabs

I believe that my F32 has factory trim tabs what are your thoughts on going to a larger tab or a Bat Wing Type?

As are mine... why do you need more tab force?
Mine do all I need... I am able to drive the bow right down should I wish.
Personally I would not want larger tabs in any kind of following sea in an F32.... I have experienced the bow dive at speed because of some tab down in a following beam sea. It threw a lot of stuff to starboard including the passenger on the bridge bench seat... not nice.

bigger tabs make more drag. what's the boat not do that you want it to ?

Be live it or not, smaller tabs cause more drag . Why ? becuse you have to put them down further to get the same effect

Paul is right on the money here. More down angle required =more drag. Greater surface area = greater lift = less down angle required = less drag.

point taken. but square inches is square inches, a wider tab center line out not fore to aft would say 6" x 18 would lift faster than a 12 x 12 right ?
but a 12 x 18 more drag ? And once on plane tabs should be up as much as you can get them..

I too can attest to a tab failure while at WOT! Damn near lost everyone on the boat. In a '32 following seas can be a b.....tch anytime and down tabs are not good in that situation. Ever since then, I rarley use use them and keep 'em up.

except with an F32... they run better with some tab due to being aft heavy, in my twin tank layout anyway. If I add some down tab on plane I get a significant speed increase. I do try to remove tab in following sea conditions.

Like prowlerfish and Paul said, More surface area=more lift. Talk to any pilot. I would love to have bigger tabs but I don't want to spend the time or money.

okay, speaking of trim tabs. What is the approximate F 36 trolling speed, with one engine shut down, the other at idle, and both factory tabs all the way down?
