hey guys,
Im thinking about installling some type of wood/wood product flooring in place of the indoor /outdoor carpet I now have in my cabin. My concern is the cabin floor is , well, not straight for lack of a better word, its kinda "arched" . what do you guys suggest in terms of wood, not wood, plastic etc.

hit the net. all kinds of stuff on the market, and they cost a pretty penny, carpet is going to be the cheapest way to go and will hide that curve the best. IMO

I am with Alexander on this one. I found a great berber remnant for $2 , cut it to custom fit. The frayed edges are concealed under the trim boards (or you melt them with a lighter or torch) and I pull it out every 4-6 months trace it on a new piece and presto, I have new carpet. Plus I use light colored stuff-unlike many laminates-which makes the cabin lighter and brighter. Oh, and I have near instantaneous acces to the bilge and pump.

Wood (teak and holly looks great) would certainly dress things up, but you gotta make sure you can pull it up and out of the way in a hurry if you have to get to the bilge quickly. Carpet is more utilitarian and will help things breathe a bit more. Also, drop a wrench on the carpet, no big deal... drop it on your wooden floor and you might care a bit more...
One side question though : if your cabin floor is 'arched', do you have a hull / rib / stringer problem that should be addressed before you lay new flooring? When my father's old 28' showed a real 'bump' mid cabin during winter storage, turned out to be a cracked/broken rib. Make her safe before you make her pretty!

Hey guys I don't post on here that often but I found something you all might find useful. I am an advid watcher of a show called shipshape tv and also an advid follower of this forum. A couple of weeks ago on the tv show they introduced a new product called seadek which they can make look basically like anything including teak decking. it is peal and stick and last from 5 to 7 years and is pretty cheap and they can make it to fit any application. It also gives some cushion to the floor that helps absorb some rough riding over the waves. Seadek is not bad but I would not use it inside a boat... it's OK for swim platforms and the like but nothing really comes close to real wood on the inside... I say stick to carpet or go with Teak and Holly laminate ply.

I used oak parkay squares on mine. I only did the kitchen area, but man di it make it look good. Easy to install, just peel and stick.

How about cork ? It's soft and yet firm and would cut down on the sound level ? And it's renewalbe to.
