We just got back from 4 full days of cruising the ICW. We went slow and took in the sights and warm weather. There are a lot of Snowbirds returning north in trawlers and sailboats - fun to meet people at the docks.

Boat ran great - only did about 220 miles total. Slept on board, docking at a friend's island dock the 1st night, then Beaufort, SC's Downtown Marina the 2nd night and on the hook the 3rd night.

I hear you Rodman - they're sweet. I actually fish offshore more with my 26, which has a cheaper set that can be removed easily.

Did you get your carb worked out? Is it a Carter AFB?

No not yet, My f250 that I pull the boat with ( The F350 4x4 ) is in body shop my dad a a minor finder binder in it last week. So It`s being repaired. I plan on taking it back out next weekend. Trust me I wanted to go this weekend but my f350 is too tall to pull it. I plan on taking my 21ft out though. I plan on bing on th water every weekend till winter. I am also looking into docking it at the marina so I do not have to pull it to the river every time.

What engine do you have in the F350? I have a 2002 Excursion Limited 4WD with the 7.3L Navistar. It tows like a Clydesdale. Only 60k miles, and its just getting broken in now.

I have the 7.3 in it. Its not the truck, Its too tall. I have a 10 lift on it with 42' swappers on it. The F250 has 7.3 as well.

It is pretty tall. I have 2" of lift for towing, and clearing downed limbs after hurricanes. The 7.3L is a great engine - and will last forever. I've resisted any engine mods, as it runs/tows fine stock, but will probably do away with the muffler soon.

I would say if you wanted little extra power. It wont hurt the engine, I have ran this model for years, get the Super Chip you will be very impressed in what it will do for you. It has a nice tow setting.

I have considered the Evolution programmer - and then you need EGT pyromoter (and 4" exhaust). It never ends once you start! ;-)

On the boat, we cruised about 220 Miles last w/e on about 40-45 gallons = 4.5-5mpg with the twin Cummins ... love it!

I would love Cummings . Wonder if I could put a doge Cummings in the boat? Had buddy that owns a junk yard showed me one today he pulled out of a totaled truck. It has low miles on it.

Marinizing the truck engines can be a bit of work (Tony on BoatDiesel recommends against it - join for $25 - theres a LOT of good info there), but I think it could be done ...

You can crank the power up a bit if you don't run them continuously at high speed. One of my neighbors owns the Performance Diesel shop here in Charleston, and he has his 24-valve Cummins cranked up to 1,100HP - runs 1/8 mile with it for fun. You can't do this in a boat, but 300HP and gobs of torque are good.
I run 17x20 props with 1:1 Velvet Drives = 6 knots at idle.

You'll need to marry it to a good tranny - probably 1:1, since going 1.5:1 or so would require a larger diameter prop, and Trojan struts don't provide enough clearance for larger diameter props. You might need to upgrade your shafts and struts to 1.25 minimum (1.5" preferred).

Finally, these Cummins weigh in at around 1,400 lbs (plus tranny) - quite a bit more than your gas engine. (was it a 454 or small block?).
