Has anyone installed a composting toilet aboard thier boats? If so...Would like to get some input as a waterless toilet seems like it would require a cleaning after each use. I`m trying to get buyers feed-back on the Natures Head toilets. Are there any other brands you suggest or is the composting toilet idea a bad one for boaters.

Thanks, Rick / F-36 Miss Kitty

I'm putting one in... don't you trust the reviews on the webpage?

Clean up after each use should be minimal... wiping with toilet paper and a spray bottle of water if you missed the hole is all that is required.

Guys are gonna have to set down to pee. If missing the hole and streaking the bowl is a problem, you can lay a large coffee filter in there first. It decomposes right along with the TP. It don't stink and it seems like magic the way all the solids disappear. I have used mine all winter while working on the boat and have not dumped the peat moss yet. The pee bottle is a different story..it holds 1.2 gallons, and has to be dumped more often. No tank, no smell, no hoses (other than a vent hose), no pumps, no pump outs, no midnight trips up the dock on trips because your tank is almost full. Best $800 bucks I ever spent.

keep us updated on this, how much space could we all get back with those poop tanks. Where do you put the waste you take out ? just put it in the dumpster ?

Danny, how long ago did you get yours and what brand? The bottles now seem to be 2 gallon size. Sounds like it is an Air Head due to small bottle... they have a new larger one now, replaces cowl and old blue bottle.

The solids can be spread on the garden or just put in the garbage.
My holding tank and pump was under the V berth ahead of the drawers... I now have all that for storage. I also had two water tanks between the fuel tanks... one is going so I will have storage from the aft bulkhead right back to the transom above the original water tank, other than the space taken by the AquaLift muffler adjacent to the bulkhead.
Really looking forward to this extra space to get more stuff down and outa-sight.

I bought mine Aug 26, 2009 from the guy at the website http://www.belowthedeck.com. It is a natures head and he has it listed at $850 but I looked the check up in Quicken and it was $907.38...taxes I guess. The guy lives in Oriental, about 15 miles from me. Thats why I bought from him. He had also sold to some of my friends who have trawler type boats so I got feedback from them before I bought it. You may be right about the bottle being two gallons. I don't have the literature at the house, and was going off memory which is not all that great at 60. So far, all the website claims are true!!
