have any of you removed the side hull graphics on an Int'l?

I am trying a test area on the stern and can't even get started. I tried a heat gun, no luck.

I have one of those 3M removal wheels and used that to remove the upper stripes that go over the radar arch (mid cabin). That works great but those were completely brittle from the sun.

I can't get the wheel to "bite" into the lower stripes though.

I think 3M makes a spray for this purpose, has anyone used that?

thanks,
Bob

My lower stripes and graphics are actually painted.

At one time I considered totally removing all these graphics to "update " the look.

The conclusion ended up being repainting all the factory graphics during the refit. Her classic lines and graphics which to some seem 'eighties" are actually an enhancement to the reverse angle rake of the transom and make her stand out and above all the other boats that all look the same.

VIVA THE GRAPHICS!

ah, that would explain it...

and why they're not in that bad shape having been waxed over the years. I can see a little of the clearcoat flaking on the edges which I thought was the clear part of the graphic.

I was a bit perplexed why the upper stripes were SO much worse than the lower ones, now I know why.

With that, I too fully endorse the graphics now!

I can confirm that the radar arch stripes are vinyl and will come off with the 3M wheel. Figure 90 mins - 2hrs a side.

Good to know. I have a stripe off wheel and will be taking my arch stripes off this season soon.

Hello Trojan Boat Experts!

I own a 1987 Trojan 13 Meter Express. It has the stripes down the side of the hull, which I want to remove. In searching the threads on this forum, it looks like many believe those stripes on the hull are actually paint and not stickers. Yes, stickers were used on the arch. I think I am in the camp believing that the haul stripes on my boat are paint.

I do want to remove them. I have no clue how to do that. Has anyone done this? (Removed painted on Trojan hull stripes).

Looking for any advice.

Thanks,

Herdbull

The first thought that comes to mind is fiberglass paint remover and or wet sanding. But no matter what I would think it would still show, with the rest of the Gel Coat being exposed over almost 38 years. You may want to give Bob at Beacon Marine a call.

Yes, I sanded mine off. I started with 220 on a palm sander and went wider than the stripes. Then progressively went up to 400, 600, 1000, 1500 (last three wet) and then buff and polish. Don’t be afraid, there should be plenty of gelcoat. I started out feeling like I was going to sand right through the hull but that quickly went away.
