318 Timing

This relates to a Chrysler 318 with electronic distributor and timing marks on the flywheel. There are no degree graduations, just a stationary reference pointer and two marks on the flywheel, one for LH and one for RH rotation.
I'm posting this for a friend who is getting the gambit of how this should be timed. Here are just a few of the directives he was given by several people:
- "2.5 deg BTDC"
- "5 deg BTDC"
- "when the mark on the flywheel is about half inch BTDC"!
- "when the mark on the flywheel lines up with the stationary pointer it is timed properly"
Does anyone know for sure?
