First and second saddest days

Thursday I looked out the window and thought the tide was very low...the realized the neighbor's boats were fine. My 11M was on the bottom.

Today was the 2nd worst...State Farm called it a write off...

Don't know yet what took it down, stern first, but don't take the capacity or condition of your aft bilge pump lightly. She went from lookin just fine to sitting in the muck very fast!

So very sorry to learn of your misfortune.

I recently re-attached the factory bilge alarm system in mine.

The swuitch has a label that states "HIGH WATER ALARM SWITCH. TEST PERIODICALLY BY HOLDING IN THE UP POSITION. AFTER DALAY (MAX 60 SECONDS) HORN SHOULD SOUND INTERMITTENTLY.

Here's a photo

Sorry to hear this.... I make sure my marine insurance coverage is for insured value with no depreciation clause.... I would be sad to loose her but at least I can replace with an equal or better vessel. I also lean towards specialty marine insurers, less likely to be dissatisfied in the need of a claim.

Michael, may I inquire as to what insurance firm you are using at this time? I need to make some changes with regard to my insurance. Obviously, I am in Ontario like yourself. Thanks.

Sorry to hear this bad news.

By "Write off" - do you mean you'll get nothing from the insurance co?

To add to RWS's post re the float switch ... you should never have a float switch without a cage over top of it... A float switch doesn't do any good if it can't float. Any crud you have floating or bouncing around in the bilge could settle on top of the switch and render it useless. A couple of years ago a friend of mine found he was having a hard time getting his 36 Sea Ray Aft on plane, then his wife noticed water above the floorboards of their aft cabin... Cause : a coil of wire that was bouncing around the bilge for a while and managed to end up on top of the float switch for his aft pump. A cage of some kind over the float switch makes sure it can't be compromised.
