Looking for a recomendation for a starter rebuild in the Hampton Roads area. Striperman or Prowlerfish have any recomendations.

Thanks,

John

Hampton roads battery is one , place, on the cheap is Dixie electric on mercury Blvd, in Hampton (you get what you pay for ). there is a place on the south side but the name escapes me right now.

Where are you ? and what are you needing ? in many cases I find its better to get a reman unit.

I live in Williamsburg. Had a valve cover leak and flywheel threw oil into the starter. I belive it is called the bendix. The part that makes the starter gear go forward and back is shot. I do have a reverse rotation engine so I thought it might be better to get it rebuilt. I have a spare on the engine now so I am not in a great hurry but would rather not rely on the spare all summer. If you still suggest a reman where is best place to buy? Does Beacon sell those or do you have somewhere locally?

Thanks again.

Reman is the way to go. What's the application? I got my reman reverse rotation for my small block from Napa.

browning's on north Independence just before Shore drive. I'm not sayin' I'd use them but it's the only one I know of around here, I'd go re-man.

I replaced a starter on my Stbd Main a few months back and looked into getting it rebuilt, but the cost was more than a new one (not a reman) Look into a gear reduction starter also, they are smaller and spin faster than the original. (Not a major deal until you have a weak battery then you'll cherish it.) I think mine was around $160 complete.
