shaft support

Greetings, I'm new to a Trojan 1972 SE 28. We had it in the Delaware River last year and hit a few submerged objects. Is the shaft mount referred to as a strut and if so is there any difference between the port and starboard. We also ruined the port side prop. I'm getting the impression that the props are a bit rare, 14"dia, 15"pitch 1" bore. At the end of the season I noticed a steady flow of water from that port side v drive. Is re packing the drives a difficult thing to do if you don't have super long arms. ? JP

Yes, its a strut. Typically port and stbd are the same. Contact Beacon for replacement!
Before repacking, try tightening the leaking side about 1/4 turn (or at least until it stop running - get it down to a drip or so a minute). You'll need two large wrenches (2-1/8" or so - can use moneky wrench, but dont; scar the threads) to loosen it up (the nuts tighten against each other, then turn the OUTER nut IN (tighter) agisnt the flax packing inside (in 1/8th turn incrments until the leaking slows), then hold it and tighten the inner nut "OUT" towards the outer nut so they lock together. Make sense?
