Any of you guys have a Captain's License?
What's required to get one, in a nutshell? What are the benefits?
Just wondering...

Tuck,
There are different stages ie, 50 ton, 100 ton and so on. There are probably online coures.
The only advantage I would see is if you wanted to register your boat for commercial use, such private charters.
Boater safety courses will help you learn the "rules of the road".
Hope this answers your question.

I was thinking at one time, sitting for a six pack course. But I'm colored blind...
This may answer some questions.

I've thought about getting the 6-pack just to increase my knowledge of boating. Thought it would make a good winter project.

I took the course for the extra knowledge but getting the actual license and the TWIC card was a pain in the neck. Also, if you get your "official" license you are often held to a higher standard. Without the CG license "you're just another dumb boater" like me. Unless you want to hire out, the license is NOT worth the trouble.

Paul,
I could never reach your standard. Remember, I've seen you handle a boat. I strive to be that good some day.
