Anyone know what material the rail behind the stainless is made out of/ Mine seems to be faded horribly. Has anyone restored this back to a good look. How?

it depends on the boat. Mine is teak. Can buy new rub rail and install, or refresh with paint [will crack though]
Please insert acceptable political or boating statement here...or not... I really don't give a crap....

Over the years and from model-to-model items such as that changed and evolved. Which boat are you talking about specifically?

78 F36. Seems as if under the stainless it may be made of hard vinyl. very faded and scratched up. can it be painted?

Mine also is some type of vinyl or plastic but the faded look doesn't bother me,...yet.
