New exhaust system on 10 meter express

I have replaced my old 454s with new 8.1s and hooked them up to the original out the side exhaust system .I used 4"pipe and rubber hose as recommended. This system now is quite noisy so I am thinking about replacing it with a new system out the back transom.I was going to run the 2- 4" pipes into a 5"pipe, into a fiberglass muffler then rubber to the transom outlet.I have been told that if I do it this way I will have to use 6"pipe, sounds a bit to big to me but I'm no expert, some of you guys are so who's right.Looking forward to your advice. Thanks Rex.

Express model with side exhausts at the waterline?

NOT a mid-cabin?

This is an EASY and INEXPENSIVE fix that also allows you to keep the integrity of the original design.

I did a refit to diesels in 2005 and borrowed a tool from John Leed at Marine Tech that allowed me to enlarge those openings.

The diesels are no louder than the 454s they replaced.

Here's a look...
