Filling up gas tank

Post by kiltsup »

Feeling very challenged today. There must be some sort of swith that toggles the ability to fill up my port side tank? The tank is empty yet when I try to fill the tank it spills over so I would assume that I need to swith something in order to fill up my port side tank? I did engage the crossover when the tank went empty and my port engine shut off on me:P Anyone guide me to my absurd question?
Cheers,

Every tank I have ever seen has a direct fill tube with no switching involved. Is there a chance that there is a blockage of some sort in the fill tube?

I agree with Sea Dog. Check your vent for blockage and run a check from the port tank to the fill (which should be on the port side of your boat) to check for kinks or other blockage.

Also, you should be able to access the sending unit and be able to remove it and be able to tell if it is actually full with a faulty sending unit and a possible bad pickup or blockage in the fuel line, granted it is far fetched that that could be the actual problem, but it is a boat and with a boat anything is possible. Also if your fill tube is a rubber hose it could be breaking down on the inside and has had a flap form that closes while your trying to fill it.

If you just tap on the tank you will be able to tell if its full or empty... don't need to start taking things apart. If empty, then you either have a blockage in the pipe, or back pressure in the tank or clogged vent (and you are just filling too quickly).
