V-Drive Oil Light Q?

Question for those with V-Drives. While working on my WOT RPM issue i have rebuilt carbs/setup idles. While idling in gear at ~600rpm she is running very smooth and slow with no wake to speak of. However the V-Drive oil lights are lit. In order to clear the lights i have to bring her to ~800 RPM in gear. At this idle the shift plates are hitting pretty hard going from a 900rpm idle to in gear. Plus it makes her charge into the dock like a bat out of hell.

Will running at this lower idle, V-Drive oil light on, cause issues? Should i be concerned? Oil is all topped off in them, and super clean / changed this year. I really only idle this low while navigating in the marina, while out under way there is really no need to.

Thoughts?

What's happening is normal operation. Takes a certain RPM to produce enough pressure to open the switch. I believe 800 to 1200 RPM is acceptable... perhaps someone else can confirm. Low oil will cause the same issue as pressure will be lower.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation.

I agree. My V drive lights are on at start up plus the buzzer warning going off and then the lights themselves stay on till revs are increased, altho buzzer stops as soon as engines fire.

Thanks. I'm not alone then. The lights are on if i go into gear while at idle, once any revs are applied they go out right away at about 900rpm.

Aweimer,

My boat does the same thing, like Bid D said the drives are fine as long as the oil levels are right, the switch takes a certain pressure to turn the light off and 800-1000 rpm does that.
