Hi there...

Want to thank everyone for their assistance with the new to me world of boating...

I've determined that there's an issue with the tank, considering I have to replace the inline fuel filter every 2 hrs or so... so in looking at alternatives, notice that Moeller Marine make a series of plastic tanks... Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as to which tank I need to buy... There's are all rectangular where my 50 Gallon tank is drum shaped... Any particulars I need to watch out for, or be mindful of?

Or alternatively, can I just spray out or treat the insides of my existing tank? I'll be doing all of this over the next few months...

I just put a Moeller 58 gallon in my 1978 F-26 last weekend.

I'm not sure of the differences in gas tank location and space between your F-25, and my F-26, but the 58 gallon was a nice fit for me.

I found a good price on the tank on boatbandit.com, but then had West Marine order it for me with price matching.

Had the same problem as you with filters clogging up. New tank fixed that.

Thanks for the reply and I did see your posting... I'm wondering how did you mount it up? and are the parts interchangeable? Meaning I can just take out the sending unit and stuff and put it in the new tank?

I pulled the old tank out, adjusted the wood framing that was used to nest the old tank to fit the new tank, and just put it in there. Wasn't too bad getting the old one out or the new one in. I reused the strapping that held the old tank down.

The smaller details of the job is where the trouble comes.

The new tanks have a fuel fill size of 1 1/2" inside diameter. My boat's existing fuel fill was closer to 2". I had to replace the fill plate because of the size differences. The new fill plate has the 1 1/2" hose connector, but is smaller than the hole cut into the boat for the old fill plate. I need to now fabricate some sort of deck plate to cover up the hole and mount the new fill plate.

The new tanks come with new sending units in them, so no need to save the rusted up one from the current tank. My gage doesn't work right with the new sender, so I will need to get a new gauge.

All in all, once I get the new gage, I'll have about $600 ($310 for the tank + $290 for the hoses, fittings, gage, ect....) into the tank replacement, plus about 6 hours of my time.
