I had been looking at accumulators (expensive) in the Marine Supply stores in an effort to stop the hammering in the cold water side. The hot side is not bad because there is an air cushion in the hot water heater. Anyway, I found this neat little accumulator at http://www.pexsupply.com/Amtrol-140735- ... lon-Volume and put it on order. I'll let you know how it works when I get it installed.

it will work Danny is the same as the marine ones on the inside it's just not S/S it's carbon steel

If you get a smart pump by surflo you woun't need one I replaced my pump with one and it works great .

Danny, I have the older style bellow pump which really pulses. I was going to upgrade to the newer style pumps but have been seeing too many fail. They make rebuild kits which I haven't had to do yet so I'll keep the oldie. I installed an accumulator similar to that; a regular grade residential unit, and it has worked great for the last 8 years. It's in a wooden boat's bildge (always wet) and still looks like the day I bought it. I put it into a wooden "C" frame (you can use starboard) with a hole out the top for air valve access and bottom for the line. This prevents anything from scratching the protective paint/coating.

I bought one last spring in an RV store and then never actually got around to installing it. It's still on the "to do" list. It's a grey thick fiberglass unit about a foot long and shaped sort of like a little tank. This may motivate me to go up and install the thing tomorrow. It only cost me forty bucks. Probably junk but might as well find out.

Good to hear!! That's the kind of pump I have...very durable but hammer like crazy. The accumulator I bought is residential also. Can't wait to get it installed.

i purchased the same thing for my r v at lowes / home depot they have them in the area where the well pumps are, have you checked there? mine was $28.00 couple years ago. might save a bit on shipping.

on the trojan however i have a smart pump installed almost 3 years ago and have no accumulator and it works great so its a toss up in my opinion. new pump or accumulator and old pump.

when i installed a new pressure water pump in 2008, i put a loop in the hose that goes from the outlet to the boats plumbing. i used wire ties to elevate it above the pump. this keeps water in the line at all times. the only time i get a hammer, is when the tank is running dry and air is introduced into the pump and hoses. once the tank is full, the hammer continues for about 5-10 minutes then once the air bubbles are out she is very quite.
