I know I can suck the oil out with a oil change through the dip stick tube but... is there a drain plug on the oil pan? Anyone ever change the oil this way?

Put in an oil change system, you might find it's not too bad a price if you do the work yourself. The initial labor is rough but with mine I just take a 5 gal bucket down in the bilge and in a few minutes I'm done.

oil change system for gasser's (pics please) I did see one and thought well maybe. But then the Onan still had to be sucked out, so didn't do..And remove the drain plug after they've been in since 1987, naw I'll pass on that.

"oil change system for gasser's " it would be the same as a diesel . I don't have the built in system but what I have is fittings at the drain plugs with hoses on them . I have a sure flow pump and bucket oil changer . I can get 14qts of oil out of each engine in 2-3 minutes max . I have had this set up on the last 3 boats I have had . Works great

On your model Crusader with the aluminum oil pan, you will have the dipstick going down to an elbow on the rear side of the pan. There is also a plug in the front of the sump, on the oil pan. It may be a hex plug. You can remove and install a drain plug and washer if you like, to drain. (As long as there is clearance.)

On my replacement starboard engine, I have a steel pan with dipstick going through block and into pan. There is a baffel which makes sucking the oil out difficult at times 'cause the pick-up hose for the extractor pump doesn't always go to bottom of oil pan. I will sometomes place a shallow disposable aluminum baking pan under motor, remove drain plug, place the oil extractor hose in the pan and suck out oil as it drains into the pan. This way, I get all oil out of pan.

Also I use a gallon ziplock bag under oil filter as well as fuel filters to catch as much as possible after loosening, when removing filters. Less mess.

I can't get to my oil plugs Paul, remember my stringers set almost as high as the exhaust manifolds I'll have to wait for a re-power.

On my 26 (trailer boat) I installed an extension hose to my new 454 with a shutoff at the end, which I poke out the 1" hull drain and simply drain it into an empty 2.5 gallon Mercury 2-stroke oil jug.

On my F32, I suck it up the dip stick. Slow, but effective.

Ok, so there is a drain plug. I'm looking for a manual but can't locate one. Thank you for the help.

Number 6 is the brass drain hex plug. There are 3 tapped holes, two on the sides at rear, dependent on port or starboard install or front of sump.

I just took some pics of my oil change system and added them to my Photobucket site. The system sucks the oil from both engines and the generator. I went to the paint store and got a 5 gal. bucket with a lid that has a small screw-on top in the middle. It's a breeze to change oil in all 3 motors.

WOW... Kick ass job!!! I like that a lot! You should patent that.

Thanks!!! I wish I could take credit for it but it came with the boat. It looks like a system you can buy. If not, its all standard items I've seen in most marina shop stores. I've always used the dipstick tube method until now and will Never go back!!

Ron - nice looking boat and so very different inside than my '79 - especially the salon area. I like the layout.
