Well I finally got the counter top out of the galley and will remake the new one over the winter months to be installed in the spring. Here are some photos of the cabinets with the counter top off and the counter top itself.

It came out pretty easily by just removing the copper screws that attached it from the underside. Along the aft wall, I had to remove the mounting strip that the counter top is mounted to and will reinstall it that way. There was also a rubber gasket material back there that was stapled to the back of the counter top which kept crumbs etc. from falling through. I plan to use the old top as a template for the new one so that it will fit precisely.

The back splash is 1/4" plywood and is still shown in the photo although it is now out. The screws that mounted it also were part of the window trim and it had formica covering it.

As I make progress on the new top, I will post photos.

What materials are you replacing with?

Just a thought but how much would it be to bring it to Lowes or Home Depot and have it make out of Corian? It may be less then you might thing and could look great.

I am thinking about replacing it with ceramic tile. An owner of an F32 on here did that exact thing last year and it looked great but I can't remember who it was. The stove came out this past spring and I gave it to someone on here but can't remember who. I am going to replace that with a cook top and put two shelves with slides below it where the microwave will go with a new cabinet door in front of it. I have a new stainless sink and new faucet to go in also.

If I can't be on the boat the next best thing is working on the boat.

I've thought about doing that and may when I do the costing for the project. It is a good idea and would minimize the work I have to do. My brother-in-law loves doing wood work and is going to help me. I am not good at it but he is, so the Corian may be the best course.

My boat came with corian and I love it looks good very durable and cleans easy.

My wife and i did granet tile on our counter at home, turned out great. I would caution this in a boat though. The movement and flex could losen the grout that holds the tile down. I would go with a solid surface versus tile for that reason.

I have wondered about that myself so thanks for the advice.

There are elastic polymers you can add to the grout.

I read that somewhere also and plan to take all of the ideas and advice from here, go to a local mom-and-pop cabinet maker, and ask his advice for marine applications.

Since Formula boats is here in town and we know the owners, I may ask them for advice also.

When we were looking at Carver 33 mariners a few years ago, it seemed like every one had remodeled with tile counter tops. It was a very good look. Just gotta make sure you seal the grout properly, it's pretty easy these days.

i believe i am the one you might be referring too, however i used granite not ceramic. here is the link to the post and my pics for those who would like to see. i have had NO issues with my installation and it has been over a year now. i think the granite is a great material and have been very happy with it in our f32. next it will be installed in the head. maybe this winters project

You are correct - your installation was our inspiration to redo our counter top and I am glad to hear you have had no problems. Did you use the elastic-type of grouting? Did you build yours in-place or build it out side and bring it in?

hello k9th, no i did not use any thing with elastomer in it. i also did my counter upgrade in place. i did not remove anything but the stove and sink. also if interested the back splash is slate 1" tiles with enhancing sealer applied to bring out the colors of the tiles. this color scheme goes well with the neutrals of our f32.
