Yes ....Thank You
A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check
payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and
including, their life. That is beyond honor, and there are way too many
people in this country who no longer remember that fact.

I'm a Viet Nam veteran and have been thinking about this recently. The number of PTSD cases among our returning vets from Iraq and Afghanistan is astonishingly high. Some of the troops who came back from Nam had the same issue, but so many of us only had one tour over there, and although we came back to a country not terribly glad about our service, there seemed to be a better safety net for us than now. I think if we really and truly wanted to honor our vets we'd be much more cognizant of those who have suffered and have not found their way back home yet. These are men and women who have served multiple tours, they are citizen soldiers who joined the National Guard and got deployed more than once to horrific combat experiences (are they any that are not?). So, I guess I'm saying don't just thank our vets, but help them any way we can - give them jobs if we are able, volunteer at the VA if you can, write to your local congressman or woman demanding that the military do more to put back the broken and missing pieces a lot better than in the past. Just sayin', that's all.

I am a veteran of the Viet Nam war having flown F4 Phantoms out of Da Nang airbase on recon missions. I am happy that our country is treating our current returning veterans the way they should be treated. Many of the vets of the Viet Nam war were shunned or ignored because it was a very unpopular war.
I want to thank all of our vets of the past and present for their unselfish service. Your service is the essence of selflessness.

Tony, Randy, Tim et al,
You are the 21st century heroes. Some times people aren't recognized as heroes until years later ... especially conflicts like Nam .. but you went, did your job and returned. Again - we thank you ... our heroes ...
