I am unable to start my gen set and want to know how I can be sure all the water is out. I usually run anti freeze in it but cannot get it started! Are there drain plugs? Location? Don't want to cover the boat till I am sure of this

Thanks

Last year my impeller fried when the marina was doing the winterization. Because it was getting late in the season and they didn't have a replacement readily available they pulled the head bolts and popped them open to let the water out. Of course it was up to them to replace the gaskets when they put it back together.

That is what they did on short notice, could work for you too.

as you look at the genset, locate the cylinder heads. directly underneath there is a head drain bolt for each head. be very careful when you remove these bolts as they are prone to 'round out' if not removed carefully. you might want to also remove the hoses that connect the water pump and drain it. as for draining the manifold on top, thats anyones guess. if you have power to the boat, you might want to invest in two small clip on light bulb concentrators and hang them in the bilge and aim them at the manifold and genset itself. will it turn over at all or just will not start? if it will not start, chances are a fuse in the controller is blown. prior to this, did the genset run at all and was it run during the season? where are you located?

These two drain plugs are 1/4 NPT Tapered pipe . Be careful not to overtighten when replacing, the taper effect can crack the head
