I need to know the name, and where I can find a hatch cover? Don't know if that is the proper name for it.
It is the cover that goes above the cabin entrance door from the helm.
It is missing, The previous owner just has a large piece of laminate over it.
The door is there, but the top half is missing.
Or maybe someone has the plans, so that I could build or get built a replacement, or an extra lying around for sale????

You maybe able to find one if you look around some boat yards . Also should be pretty easy to make one , they where made of marine plywood with mahogany or teak trim .

I had the same issue. I have searched at 2 bone yards in my area none of them fit or were of various configuration so good luck. But as Prowlerfish said check out the Boat yards I found a lot of interesting items and saw some things that I thought was nice to do to my boat.

I ended up doing exactly what he said it was inexpesive got a piece of 2 sided teak marine plywood took the old trim of strip the paint from the old trim and worked the wood. I am prouder of the piece then I ever would have been buying a new one of just replacing it with one I found at the boat yard.

I have the same 1980 F25 as you, and if your in no hurry, when it warms up enough, (above 50 deg.) I'll take some picks of mine and send them to you.

And if your not in any hurry at all, I'll remove it, take pic's and measurements, etc, and send them. I does look easy to make.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you some pictures of mine. It's an F-26 but they should pretty much be the same. I'm heading to the marina this afternoon to charge my batteries so I'll take a few pictures while I'm there.

There was a thread a few months back about someone with a tri-cabin who was looking to replace his hatch as well. If you search for it you may find some more useful info there. In essence, the hatch is two pices of wood, both the same size if I remember correctly, with a piano hinge between them, as others have pointed out.

It is designed so that the forward piece has connectors or studs on the bottom of it that slide back and forth in the tracks you have on either side of the opening. The aft piece folds forward on top of the forward piece (thanks to the piano hinge) to open up. The aft piece is also usually either routered (just forward of its aft edge) to put a groove in it to fit over top of the cabin door, or has a lip on the trailing edge that fits down over the outside of the door, to make it more 'water resistant'.

Although I am a rookie to the site and boating. I think I remember from years back the Hatch being known as a companionway hatch. You may want to look that up. Or ask the experts here.

The hatch on mine, and I'm sure was is on his F25 also, slides open and closed on rails with plactic rollers. When closed, and before the door is closed, there is a sliding lock inside, Once it is secured, the door can be closed and locked also. But there may have more than one type?

It is suppose to be in the upper 40's by Friday, so will try and get pic's then.

It may be a longshot, but you might get lucky if you track down the previous owner... he may still have the missing hatch assembly lying around in his garage, if only pattern worthy. From your pics, it looks like the tracks were also removed.

Really sorry I haven't able to get to the boat to take pic's and measure, just haven't been able to.
But I will even if someone beats me to it, as mine may be different from theirs and this will give you a choice.
