My hour meter doesn't work and I would like to replace it. Is it possible to some how advance the new meter so the numbers will match the old one when it Quit?

Not sure if you can advance it manually, but you could hook it up to DC current and let it crank until it reaches the old number. I replaced mine and simply noted the old hour meter reading on a label located next to the new one. Also keep a log with hour meter readings and dates.

Its possible but not easy . they are made tamper proof . How many hours ? if only a few hundred you can leave it hooked up to 12 volts, a week gives you 168 hours .

what most folks do is just log the hours the meter was changed at

What they did when they replaced our starboard engine was wire tie the old meter to the new engine and install a new meter.

I am confused, why would they tie an old meter to a new engine? Wouldn't the new engine have 0(zero) hours?
What am I missing. Forgive this noob, but it just doesn't make sense.

That way you won't loose it and can show its hours to a buyer

Maybe the old meter would show a perspective buyer the total hours on the tranny. But I think this a terific idea for foureins

If you have only one engine you don't need the old meter. If you have twins it shows the hours for the old one.

I have one for each engine . I have always had one per engine or none . I would have added another one when I replace the engine

I guess they don't trust you with just one.

One meter is just being cheap IMO shame on Trojan I would have added another one when I replace the engine so I would have one per engine
