Fuel Filters replacing with Racor's

Yea winter is almost over...
Looking for recommendations or looking to see what everyone has done. I purchase some Racor 320's and I am curious if the group recommends removing the engine mounted gas filter that has the small screw on bowl on the back left hand side of a Crusader 454. I defiantly remove the old fram special marine (oil tank type filter). but was curious if I can come right out of the filter and go in to the fuel pump.....
Let me know what everyone thinks..

I think I'd remove the first inline filter and keep the can spin on. So the gas is running from tank to the racors then the spin on .

keep the on engine filters like tony says
Remember you can not use a filter with a see thru bowl , you must use the one with the metal bowl on a inboard ( the 320 comes both ways )
here's what I did on my 454's

kept the carb filter in place, removed the canister filter completely and mounted the Racors in line (replaced/made up) all the blue flex fuel line during the process.
I mounted mine to the cockpit floor rather than the bulkhead since it made them more accessible and easier to install. I also added floscans and a pre filter but that's a different post

These Racors are good filters and are all you need in the fuel line. If you have a filter before it, this pre-filter can clog up and stop the flow of fuel before the Racor can do its job.
On my 350 MerCruiser, I replaced the spin on canister filter with a Racor filter (alloy bowl) and kept the screen in the carb.

What is the reason that some of you recomend keeping the small on motor filter, and not using only the racor... I plan on keeping the Carb filter / screen but wanted to move that little Spin on Canister next to the starter?

Less chance of dirt getting through is the main reason , if you choose to remove the engine filter make sure you use a fine micron filter in th racor like a 2 .
Remember you can't have fuel thats too clean
again make sure you don't have the see through bowl

I removed the small canister fuel filter that was mounted over the starters
(we call these the widow makers, if they leak on the starter good bye).
I have fuel/water seperators from tanks to fuel pumps (electric) and to the carb filters. No issues after 4 years of running this set up and filters are only about $8.00. (10 micron filters)

IMO The best way is to start with a water separator filter (bulk filter if you will) then to a finer ( smaller micron filter then to the carb and of course Leave the carb filter/screen in place . start off with a 30 or 20 micron filter / separator then go to a 10 or 2 micron . then to the carb.
Not saying you can't just use the racor , but there is a better way to do it .
your fuel can not be to clean. gas or diesel

I`m not a fan of the filters Crusader installs by the starter. I don`t like the location or the filter design. The Racors are great, have them on mine. The only caution I have is beware of vapour lock in multi filter installations. The more restrictions you have in the fuel system, the greater the vacuum and chance of vapour lock.

Hello, Looking for recomendations on packing for a 1985 F36. I removed old packing and placed the new 1/4 inch packing on the box but it does not appear to be sitting tight against the shaft is this normal or should there be bigger packing in here.....
What does the reset of the group use on the F 36 thanks
