Most fiberglass manufacturers that do not use gel-coat (i.e. Hatteras for one) leans towards Awlgrip, but a few use Imron to save $$. Anyone have any experience in spraying Imron on their Trojans? (boats that is

)

Shot Imron on my Chevelle SS years ago, and Awlgrip on my 26. Shot Sikkens on my Sunbeam Tiger.
My Awlgrip is amazing - worth the $ !

Thanks, Capt Ross. Did you shoot the Awlgrip yourself? I know there is a lot of prep work and undercoating / primers etc to get it right. How much of an effort and expense was it for you? When the economy was good, the going price for a yard to do Awlgrip was $1,000 per foot of boat. Way to rich for "Basket Case". I just want her to look good at a reasonable cost. Thanks for any input.

Spent month getting the hull/deck perfect. Filling. Block Sanding. Filling, etc. Indoors.
We closed off the shop, hosed the floors, let it dry, wiped, wiped, wiped. Put plastic up around the boat. Put filters in place (2 layers of large home air filters). Used large fans to move the air/paint through and shot 2 coat of epoxy primer and 4 coats of White Awlgrip, then 2 coats of blue on the bottom. My buddy, who paints Vettes, shot the paint. I;ve done it before, but he is a perfectionist (and it was his shop).
A LOT of work - but the paint is perfect (still). I've posted pix on here before, so I wont; bore everyone with another set.
$1k/ft? wow! Couldn't afford that.

The work you are describing is probably why most of us wouldn't be doing it anytime soon. Thanks for the information. My 36' isn't going in anyone's garage anytime soon and I have to assume that trying to awlgrip a boat outside is like P_____G in the wind?
